The City of Fall River to Host Drive-In Movie Nights This Summer
Who doesn’t love a drive-in movie experience? It should be on every family’s bucket list this summer and we have three opportunities for you to check off that box.
Mayor Paul Coogan announced that the City of Fall River and Greater Fall River Re-Creation will be bringing back the free Summer Drive-In Movie Series, located at the Durfee High School parking lot on Ray Street.
"We began the drive-in movies in 2020 because they allowed for social distancing, but they quickly became a new tradition in Fall River,” said Mayor Coogan. “The drive-ins really bring the community together and offer a new kind of free family fun. Residents of all ages - from toddlers to teenagers to seniors - have loved these events, and I hope folks come out to enjoy the three drive-ins this summer.”
The three-part series will kick off with a showing of Disney’s Encanto this Friday, June 24. Gates will open at 6:30 pm so that guests can enjoy activities and refreshments before the movie begins at 8:30 pm.
All three drive-ins will now include free hamburgers and hot dogs, prepared by ReCreation. Guests can also enjoy a petting zoo, a photo booth, and activities and giveaways from community organizations. These events are offered to the community free of charge thanks to the generous sponsorship of Senator Michael Rodrigues.
Unlike the drive-in movie series of 2020 and 2021, residents no longer need to reserve
tickets for the events, but should anticipate that the lot will fill up quickly.
If you’ve already seen Encanto one too many times, or you just aren’t available this Friday, don’t worry. There are still two more chances to participate in this free event.
On Friday, July 29, you can load the whole family into your Delorean and bring them to see Back to the Future. Just don’t forget to bring the flux capacitor.
On Friday, August 19, be sure to catch The Avengers in the original 2012 film. We still can’t believe it’s already been 10 years since the group first assembled.
Residents can follow the Facebook event page for the drive-in event this Friday.
Be sure to monitor the City of Fall River and Greater Fall River Re-Creation pages for updates on the next two movie events.
