Fall River police are warning residents about a phone scam where people claim to be affiliated with the police themselves.

The FRPD says there is a new scam where people are calling and claiming to be with an entity called the “Fall River Police Constable Service." They then ask for donations under false pretenses.

In fact, Fall River police Lt. Paul Santos told the Herald, the "Fall River Police Constable Service,” doesn't even exist.

The police department is warning residents that

If you receive phone calls from someone claiming to be from this organization, please take down the information and report the incident,”

There was another scam from earlier in the week that officers warned residents about where people called claiming to be from National Grid and tried to convince people their power would be turned off if they didn't send immediate payments via Western Union.

If you are contacted about either of these phone scams you are urged to contact Detective Dwayne Cabeceiras of the Fall River Police Department’s Major Crimes Division at 508-324-2796, or call the police department’s anonymous tips line at 508-672-TIPS.
