FALL RIVER - A Fall River police officer faces multiple charges following his arrest this week.

According to the Herald News, Michael Malek, 58, of Freetown, was arrested at his home late Monday night after neighbors reported hearing a female shouting for help from Malek's home.

Freetown Police say they entered Malek's home and saw him pinning a female relative to the floor. The woman had a slight cut above her eyebrow and scrapes on her wrist.

Malek allegedly told police he was pinning the relative out of fear that she would harm herself, and pinning her has helped to calm her down during previous episodes.

Freetown Police arrested Malek and charged him with domestic assault, later adding charges of intent to commit rape, indecent assault and battery on a person older than 14, and assault on a household member. However, the alleged female victime did not say Malek attempted to rape her, according to Freetown Police. The Bristol County District Attorney's Office says Malek is being prosecuted on charges of assault and battery and disturbing the peace.

Freetown Police also searched Malek's home, seizing two rifles, three shotguns, and a .380 caliber pistol. Malek was charged with six counts of improper storage of a firearm since the weapons were not secured with trigger locks.

Malek has been held in custody. He faces a dangerousness hearing today.
