While New Bedford’s snow response earned praise for efficiency — even lifting its parking ban four hours earlier than expected on Monday, January 26th — just a couple of towns over, Fall River is still digging out.

Several neighborhoods remain difficult to navigate days after the storm, with residents pointing to streets like Essex Street and South Main Street as examples of areas still struggling to be fully cleared. With students returning to school for the first time since the storm on Wednesday, January 28th, concerns are growing about whether buses can safely access certain routes (never mind finding a safe spot for the kids to stand and wait).

The ongoing parking ban hasn’t helped matters, as parking options remain limited and icy, narrowed roadways are becoming more hazardous as temperatures continue to drop. Each passing day of freezing conditions only makes proper clearing more urgent.

Fall River Issues Public Call for Help

On Tuesday, January 27th at around 4:00 P.M., the City of Fall River took to social media with a public plea, asking for additional plow drivers to help finish the job.

The post made it clear the city is actively looking to bring more drivers on board for the winter season, noting that its insurance policy has been updated to accommodate new help.
