It has been a long, frustrating week for both residents and local leaders across the SouthCoast. Frustration has been running high, as explained by New Bedford councilor at large Ian Abreu this morning on the MGM Show. Many people are not happy with both the amount of snow that walloped the region last weekend and the number of streets that have yet to see black pavement nearly a week later.

Fall River Extends the Parking Ban Again

Nowhere is that frustration more evident than in Fall River, where Mayor Paul Coogan extended the citywide parking ban again Friday afternoon. The mayor’s office released a memo stating the Fall River parking ban will remain in effect through the weekend.

The memo noted that the parking ban is staying in place because the weekend forecast includes additional snow in the Fall River area.

One of the Longest Bans in Recent Memory

The extension makes this one of the longest parking bans in recent memory. While the news is likely being met with groans from Fall River residents, it is safe to assume this extension was not a decision Mayor Coogan wanted to make either.

Why Fall River Is Still Struggling

One major problem has been a lack of available plow drivers to help clean up streets after last weekend’s snow and ice. Five full days after the storm, the city was still posting on Facebook that it needed additional plow drivers.
