Fall River Kindness Closet Providing Food Items
A Fall River woman just wanted to get to know her neighbors so she set up what she calls a "Kindness Closet" to help those in need.
Theresa Newfield-Grabowski is a Fall River transplant who was looking for a way to not only get to know her neighbors, but also to honor her late mother by helping her community. The Kindness Closet would accomplish both.
Newfield-Grabowski was a single parent to two boys before she got married, so she knew some of the struggles many parents went through just to make sure their kids have all their needs met.
She has been stocking the closet for two years now and has gotten contributions from neighboring local business Christopher's.

The items that get stocked are usually toiletries, dry goods and other non perishables. Newfield-Grabowski also finds herself placing other items like school supplies, Chapstick and crayons in the closet.
"Most of the time, if I'm at the dollar store, I just grab a few extra items to throw in the box," she said.
The Kindness Closet definitely helped Newfield-Grabowski get to know her neighbors, and I'm sure she has helped many of them as well.
She is on to something for sure; many people are not eligible for assistance programs and may be a little ashamed to ask for help, so being able to drop in and grab a few essentials is hugely helpful.
We need more of these, don't you think? Neighbors helping neighbors; what a concept.
