Fall River Woman’s Unexpected Celebrity Encounter

Between Charlie Hunnam and Matt Rife, Fall River has become a hotspot for unexpected celebrity sightings—now, there's one more to add to the list.

Michele Antunes of Fall River was wrapping up a long day of cutting hair and perfecting fades when she stumbled into a surreal moment she never saw coming.

On Thursday evening, while stopping to get gas, Antunes spotted an ad on Instagram for special Dubai chocolate-covered strawberries at Ice N’ Roll, a local rolled ice cream shop on North Main she hadn’t visited in years. On a whim, she decided to stop in with her son—only to find herself face-to-face with hip-hop artist Joyner Lucas.

“I walked in with my son, and he and his family were there. I instantly said to myself, ‘Umm, is that Joyner Lucas?’” Antunes recalled.

Sitting near Lucas’ son, she double-checked Instagram and saw a fresh post of the rapper with his little boy. That’s when it clicked—this was the real deal. On top of that, it just so happened to be the boy's birthday as well and every birthday deserves ice cream.

Still, she hesitated. “At first, I wasn’t going to ask him because I felt bad. He was with his family,” she admitted. “But then I thought, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Summoning the courage, she turned to him. “Excuse me, are you Joyner?”

With a simple “Yeah,” the Grammy-nominated rapper confirmed it. When she asked for a photo, he was more than happy to oblige.

One of Lucas’ family members even offered to hold Antunes’ son, Ky, so she could get a proper picture with the Worcester native.

The whole encounter left her in disbelief. “I truly didn’t think it was him because it was such a random place for him to stop at. And I just so happened to run into six or seven of his family members, too!”

What started as an ordinary day ended with an unforgettable celebrity sighting—all thanks to a sweet tooth and perfect timing in the heart of Fall River.
