FALL RIVER (WBSM) — Fall River Police responded to Walmart on Wednesday, October 25, after a 69-year-old woman reported that her purse had allegedly been stolen from her cart while inside the business.

After police reviewed the video surveillance footage, they observed a male following the woman as she moved about the store.

The footage revealed the woman leaving her purse unattended when the suspect allegedly approached her shopping cart, took her purse and left the store.

Upon further investigation, police identified the suspect as James Smith of Fall River.

On October 26, Smith was arrested and according to police will be charged with larceny from a person over 65 years old.
