HealthFirst Event Honors Nurses While Celebrating Cultural Diversity
As National Nurses Week winds down, an event that I was asked co-emcee this past weekend showcased the evolution of the nurse's uniform. It was the Second Annual Fashion Fusion event at HealthFirst Family Care Center in Fall River.
The event was put together to showcase the many cultures, their fashions, and their culinary traditions. So many different cultures were represented, and it was an absolutely amazing evening to support the many community programs offered at HealthFirst.
The Evolution of Nurses’ Uniforms
A portion of the show stuck out to me, as it didn't necessarily show a culture but a time period and the evolution of the nurse's uniform.
Spanning decades, there were women who walked down the runway showcasing the many changes that occurred to the uniform and how it affected functionality. Some of the models were in fact nurses and could recall wearing the uniforms.

Celebrating Cultural Diversity Through Fashion
Along with seeing the evolution of the nurse's uniform, many cultures were represented in a personalized way. Italian, Cambodian, Irish, Portuguese, and many more heritages were on display in vibrant colors and energy.
Former Miss Massachusetts Michaela Gagn, was truly the host of the evening, sharing the amazing backstories as to why each model chose their outfit and the history and influence behind what they were wearing. Each model was local and represented the many cultures, traditions, food, and stories of our region.
A Night to Remember on the SouthCoast
Overall, what a fantastic evening. I'm beyond thankful to have been in the room, sharing in the pride for the diversity we have on the SouthCoast.
A special thank you to CEO Dr. Lisa Jones and Director of Marketing Jenny Reis for having me.
