Fall River Man Killed in Martha’s Vineyard Construction Accident
EDGARTOWN (WBSM) — A Fall River man was killed in an accident Tuesday at a construction site on Martha’s Vineyard.
Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois announced today that Jose Luis Collaguazo Crespo, 32, of Fall River succumbed to injuries suffered in a fall from a second-story ladder.
Galibois said Edgartown Police and EMS/Rescue were called to the construction site for an apartment building, identified by the Vineyard Gazette as the Meshacket Commons project, at about 7:43 a.m. on February 11 for a report of a man who had fallen from the second-story ladder onto a cement basement floor.
The victim, identified as Crespo, was then transported to a hospital where he passed away.

The D.A.’s Office said investigators have preliminarily ruled the incident an accident, and that there is currently no active criminal investigation.
However, the D.A.’s Office did say that “any potential negligence by the developer would fall under civil rather than criminal jurisdiction.”
It also pointed out that if “new evidence emerges that warrants further review,” then the D.A.’s Office “will assess it accordingly.”
