What we have here is a serial "dine and dasher."

Restaurants in Fall River are urging fellow business owners across the SouthCoast to keep an eye out after the same man allegedly walked out on his tab at two different establishments on consecutive nights, each time caught clearly on camera.

The incidents were first shared publicly by the Liberal Club on Wednesday evening, followed by Scottie’s Pub, which recognized the same man in their own surveillance footage from the night before.

While the goal isn’t to shame him personally, both restaurants are concerned and are hoping to prevent other small businesses from being hit next.

Two Restaurants, Same Hat, Same Exit

Both sets of security footage show what appears to be the same older man wearing a dark puffer vest, a baseball cap, and casual clothing.

At the Liberal Club, the man ordered food and drinks, sat for a while, then slipped out without paying.

At Scottie’s Pub, he reportedly did the same, this time after eating pizza and having a couple of drinks.

According to Scottie’s Pub, the man even asked the bartender to “watch his pizza while he made a call,” before making what they described as a “B-LINE out the door and up 6th Street.”

What the Restaurants Are Saying

From the Liberal Club (Wednesday):

From Scottie’s Pub (Tuesday):

A Tough Time for Small Businesses

While the man’s circumstances are unknown, it’s possible he may be struggling or facing challenges nobody sees. However, these local establishments are already facing rising costs, staffing shortages, and tight margins.

A dine-and-dash hurts more than people might think, especially for small, family-owned places.

SouthCoast Businesses Urged to Stay Alert

Both incidents happened in central Fall River less than 24 hours apart.

Local restaurant and bar owners from Fall River to New Bedford and everywhere in between should be aware of the situation and keep an eye out.

Anyone who recognizes the man is encouraged to contact the affected establishments or the Fall River Police Department with any leads.
