Kind Fall River Cop Stops Traffic to Help Snapping Turtle Cross the Road
Traffic in Fall River is nothing new, but it’s not every day you see a police officer stopping traffic for a turtle.
A Fall River woman captured the comical moment on Tuesday morning when a Fall River police officer showed his kinder side and assisted a giant snapping turtle across a busy road.

Stephanie Andrade was on her way to get her morning coffee at Dunkin’ when she noticed a commotion on Eslbree Street.
“I was amazed that it had nothing to do with crime bright and early in the morning,” she said.
As she got closer to the flashing lights, she realized what the commotion was about.
An officer was kindly directing traffic for a gigantic snapping turtle that was determined to get from one side to the other.
“This police officer is the police officer of the month. Good job, Fall River PD,” laughed Andrade as she captured the moment on camera. “It’s a baby dinosaur!”
Recently, the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife shared that around this time of year, thousands of turtles across Massachusetts will be traveling to nesting sites over the next few months.
They also noted that snapping turtles are fast and have very powerful jaws that can inflict a bad bite. That explains why the officer didn’t’ attempt to just pick up the snapping turtle. He had his fingers in mind.
Thanks to the kind cop, this snapping turtle’s journey was a success, and thanks to Stephanie Andrade, we all got a good laugh out of it.
