Fall River’s Historic Carousel Getting New Operators and New Life
The historic carousel in Fall River has changed hands a few times in the last few years but the new operator promises a new and exciting future is in store.
The new operators are no strangers to the area; they also own Tipsy Toboggan and Canned Heat Craft Beer just down Ferry Street. Karl Pelletier and his parent company Red Oak Hospitality will now lease and operate the building that houses the historic carousel and sits right on the water at Battleship Cove.
The landmark brings thousands of tourists and locals every year, and with the Fall River MBTA commuter rail station within walking distance, the number of potential visitors to the area is sure to rise once the warmer weather arrives.

Red Oak Hospitality Takes the Fall River Carousel Into the Future
Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, Red Oak Hospitality will begin operating the historic Fall River Carousel with the support of Bristol County Economic Development.
"We couldn’t be more honored to help write the next chapter of the Fall River Carousel’s story, a chapter filled with light, life, and lasting memories," Pelletier said.
Pelletier admitted that the carousel itself is a relic in need of some attention and he has already begun doing just that by giving it a deep clean, some fresh light bulbs and a nice polish.
Gathering Grounds Cafe Will Also Open in the Carousel Space
The carousel isn't the only thing getting attention. Pelletier is also installing a second location of the Gathering Grounds Cafe, which he recently opened a location in Seekonk.
The rustic Americana-inspired cafe, ice cream and book boutique will offer the very best in fair trade organic coffee from roasters in western Massachusetts. The ice cream will be locally made and provided by Warwick Ice Cream Company.
The plan is to have everything ready and open just in time for Mother's Day, and we will of course make sure to share the news.
Pelletier said he plans to make full use of the space.
"Guests can expect everything from large-scale events to intimate birthday parties and milestone celebrations," he said.
A Year-Round Future for the Fall River Carousel
Pelletier said he's looking to take it beyond a seasons attraction, too.
"Thanks to the support from Bristol County Economic Development, we’re working on transforming this landmark into a year-round destination at Battleship Cove, complete with a magical month-long December holiday celebration and other unique winter experiences."
Pelletier also shared some other fun ideas he has in the works for the space.
"We’ve even begun planning special prix fixe pop-up dinners with local restaurants, and who knows, maybe we’ll even convince a few local celebrity chefs to join us," he said.
