The unofficial results are in from Tuesday's preliminary elections deciding the top candidates for mayor in Attleboro and Fall River — and the incumbents easily took the top spots in both.

Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan earned 3,893 votes, or 63% of the 6,220 ballots cast, while City Council President and former acting mayor Cliffe Ponte took 2,118 votes, or 34%.

The two will face off for the mayor's seat on Nov. 2.

Other candidates now out of the running are Jonathan James Albernaz, who earned 133 votes, and Michael Vandal, who took 50.

Meanwhile in Attleboro, Mayor Paul Heroux got 66% of the 3,148 ballots cast, with 2,072 votes.

He'll be up against challenger Todd McGhee — who earned 811, or 26% of the votes — in November.

Runner up James Poore received 8% with 261 votes.
