Fairhaven Turkey Trot Returns for Its 12th Year With a Goal of Giving Back
Before you sit down in front of a pile of turkey and potatoes on Thursday, grab your running shoes and participate in the Fairhaven Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning to raise money for local food pantries.
For the past 12 years, families have been hitting the pavement to give back, and this year, the Turkey Trot returns to Cushman Park.
How It All Started
The Fairhaven Turkey Trot has been a tradition since 2010 when it was founded by the Fairhaven High School Class of 1999. It’s an all-volunteer effort, and the race has been directed by Union Running and the Greater New Bedford Track Club since 2017.
All proceeds from the trot are donated to Shepherd’s Pantry in Acushnet and the SMEC Center, an educational collaborative that provides high-quality programs and services for all children and adults who need specialized instruction or support.
Race Information
This race isn’t about who wins, it’s about who participates for the sake of giving back. Run, walk or trot with family and friends in the un-timed race while raising money for Shepherd’s Pantry and the SMEC Center.
All entries are $25 until race day and all children 12 and under can participate for $10 each. Online registration closes Wednesday, Nov. 23, 8 a.m.
The course will start at Cushman Park on Bridge Street in Fairhaven, travel out to Fort Phoenix and return to the park where it finishes on the west end of the track.
The Goal for 2022
“We are looking to keep this long-standing Fairhaven tradition going and continue to help the efforts of the Shepherds Pantry going as well as supporting our long-time race partner the SMEC Center,” the organization said. “More than ever, they need your support.”
This Thanksgiving, earn that turkey and give back to those who need it by joining the Fairhaven Community on Thursday, Nov. 24.
