Fairhaven Marine Killed In Afghanistan

Fairhaven has lost a native son while he was fighting for our freedom. We are saddened to report that Lance Cpl. Matthew R. Rodriguez died Wednesday while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, according to the Department of Defense and WCVB-TV.

He was assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. As details become available, we will update you. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends.
