Fairhaven Rallies for Kindness and Respect
My mother always told me, "Stay humble and stay kind."
In response to growing concerns about negativity and discrimination, Fairhaven residents Krystal Lunn and Jessica Fidalgo are organizing a "Come Together and Spread Kindness" Rally on Sunday, April 13, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM on the front lawn of Fairhaven High School.
The idea for the rally came after East Fairhaven Elementary School Principal Mrs. Weidenfeller alerted parents to instances of unkind behavior among students. Lunn, a parent herself, felt compelled to take action.
"We received an email on April 2nd about discrimination happening at the school, kids not being nice to each other," Lunn said. "I posted about it, and someone asked, ‘What are you going to do about it?’ That’s when I reached out to Jessica, and we decided to start a kindness rally to spread awareness."
The event is open to everyone, and attendees are encouraged to bring signs, pom-poms, and their voices to help spread a message of positivity.
"People don’t have to agree with each other, but they do need to be respectful," Lunn emphasized. "Lately, there’s just been so much negativity, whether in schools or even around town with the upcoming election. This rally is about reminding people to treat each other with kindness."
For Lunn and Fidalgo, the goal is to set an example for future generations.
"As a parent, I just want to make the world a better place for our children," Lunn said. "My daughter always says, ‘Be a bucket filler, not a bucket dipper.’ That’s the kind of attitude we need more of."
The "Come Together and Spread Kindness" Rally is open to the public, and all are welcome to join.
