
‘Bob’s Burgers’ Star Who Once Visited New Bedford Injured in Fiery N.H. Crash
A celebrity with a bit of a connection to New Bedford was seriously injured in a fiery car crash in New Hampshire this week.
Yevgeny “Eugene” Mirman, 51, is best known as the voice of Gene Belcher on Bob’s Burgers. He also had roles in shows like Flight of the Conchords and has done voice work on Archer and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
The actor and comedian was born in Moscow, Russia but has called Massachusetts home since moving here at the age of four. He also attended Hampshire College in Amherst.
Fiery Crash on New Hampshire Turnpike
Mirman was involved in a single-vehicle crash on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Bedford, New Hampshire on Tuesday, March 31, just before noon.

Mirman crashed into a toll plaza and his vehicle caught fire. He was pulled to safety by a New Hampshire State Trooper assigned to Governor Kelly Ayotte’s security detail, with assistance from Governor Ayotte herself.
Statement Released on Eugene Mirman’s Condition
Mirman’s rep released a statement to media outlets:
"Eugene was in a very scary car accident. He wants to thank the bystanders, state police, first responders and hospital staff who saved him. He is grateful to be on the mend. At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Eugene and his family as he focuses on recovering from his injuries."

Eugene Mirman’s Connection to New Bedford
Mirman has been a visitor to New Bedford in the past. In July 2024, he was in town with his family and stopped by Purchase Street Records on Pope’s Island.

Back in 2018, WBSM’s Taylor Cormier wrote an article theorizing that Bob’s Burgers is actually based in New Bedford.

Mirman himself commented on the article and the theory via X (then Twitter), saying that he thought the show took place in New Jersey, but that he liked to think it was “somewhere in New England, like Old Orchard Beach.”
