The SouthCoast was shaken by an earthquake Sunday morning.

According to the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program, the government’s official earthquake tracker, at about 9:10 a.m. on November 8, an earthquake measuring 4.0 was reported with an epicenter just off the shores of the SouthCoast – nine miles south-southwest of Bliss Corner in Dartmouth, in the waters of Buzzards Bay.

It was initially reported as a 4.2 quake, but was later downgraded to 4.0.

The quake was reportedly felt for hundreds of miles, even up into Canada.

It’s not the first time that an earthquake has been reported in the waters near Bliss Corner. In May of 2011, a 2.1-magnitude quake was recorded 11 miles away.
