New Bedford Police are investigating an early Friday morning purse snatching.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says a 24-year-old South End woman had parked her car and was walking home around 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Crapo St. and Rivet St. when she was struck in the head from behind.

She said one of three male suspects then took her purse and emptied it on the sidewalk before taking off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Vicente says the victim refused medical treatment.

The suspects were described as being roughly 5 feet 8 inches tall with two of them wearing dark jeans and hooded sweatshirts and the third wearing a white shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Evan Bielski at 508-991-6300 ext. 79503 or leave an anonymous tip at 508-961-4584.
