UPDATE: The Bristol County District Attorney's Office announced that the victim, Paul DeMoura, 57, of Dighton, has passed away from his injuries.

DIGHTON (WBSM) — Dighton Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash Thursday night that sent one person to the hospital.

Dighton Police Chief George Nichols said police are seeking the public's assistance in the case of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle while walking along Route 44.

Nichols said an off-duty officer was traveling on Route 44 at about 10 p.m. when he observed a man lying in the road on Winthrop Street near the Gulf gas station. The officer immediately called for assistance.

Investigators believe the man was walking alongside Route 44 westbound when he was struck.

He was transported to a local hospital by Dighton Fire crews. His condition is unknown.

Nichols said they are possibly seeking a Toyota of an unknown year or model in connection with this incident.
