Dartmouth’s Two Spirit Halloween Stores Are Hauntingly Close Together
Dartmouth has become a puzzling case study in retail redundancy with the opening of not one but two Spirit Halloween stores — separated by a mere mile.
The latest addition at 458 State Road, occupying the former Circuit City, joins the pre-existing Spirit Halloween at 65 Faunce Corner Road, which has taken over the old Christmas Tree Shop. With the Seekonk location being the next closest option, Dartmouth now stands out as the town with an overabundance of Halloween spirit.
It's one thing to see Spirit Halloween stores pop up in vacant retail spaces every fall, a tradition that many have come to expect. However, opening two locations within a seven-minute drive of each other raises more than a few eyebrows.
For a town like Dartmouth, which has a reasonable selection of shopping options, it seems curious that the company would opt to plant two stores so close together.
Why would a company known for temporarily transforming empty stores into Halloween paradises choose to open two outlets so close together?

If you ask me, Dartmouth could use a bit more variety in its retail scene rather than more of the same when it comes to the spooky season.
As much as people love Halloween, there’s only so much demand a small town can sustain. This expansion within such a short distance might dilute the brand’s presence, but that's just my opinion.
After all, it’s not like Halloween is a year-round holiday that would justify this level of market saturation.
In a season where things are meant to be spooky, Dartmouth's retail landscape is perhaps becoming a little too eerie — where the haunting question is less about what to wear this Halloween and more about which Spirit Halloween to visit.
