Sometimes the simple pleasures in life are the most enjoyable. Taking a walk, for example, can be a great way to clean your mind, ease your stress and simply enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds you.

"I just love nature. I love being outdoors. There's something so peaceful about it and being able to share that love and share nature with others is fantastic," said Kendra Parker, Development and Outreach Specialist for the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust.

The Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust (DNRT) welcomes all to enjoy the great outdoors and care for it as well.

"The amount of natural, beautiful places we have is limited," Parker said. "There's a huge need to housing, but there's also a need for respite and to be able to escape our busy lives and have these sacred spaces for people to enjoy."

Plenty of Outdoor Trails to Enjoy

The DNRT has over 40 miles of trails that families, dogs and nature lovers have enjoyed for decades.

Its staff may be small, but it makes a big impact on the SouthCoast.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

"We have a full-time staff of five people, two of which are land management and they're out in the field. In the summer we have about two or three seasonal staff members that also help with trail maintenance and then we rely on volunteers," Parker said.

They host "work parties" each week where they gather at a different property and take care of what's needed.

"Whether it's removing invasive plants, clearing out trash, trimming the trails, we usually expect 15 to 20 people to show up at those events," Parker added.

Celebrate Earth Day with DNRT

Starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, the DNRT is hosting an Earth Day Clean Up at the Knowles-Padanaram Reserve.

"We'll have trash grabbers and bags to clean up that reserve and the roadside area," Parker said.

So grab your friends and children (this is a kid-friendly event) and get ready to do your part this Earth Day.
