I'm not on TikTok, but I come across a few of the more popular reels as they pop up on my Facebook or Instagram newsfeed and get sucked into the vortex with "I understood the assignment" playing on a loop and annoying my husband. However, every once in a while, I find a gem that teaches me something new and today was one of those days.

I've been on this planet for nearly three decades and never once knew that you could order a birthday cake from McDonald's.

I wasn't sure how legitimate this was at first, so I paid a visit to the McDonald's located at 179 Rockdale Ave in South Dartmouth. I asked the manager at the counter if it was possible to order a birthday cake and without skipping a beat, she asked the nearest worker if she could check the freezer in the back.

Unfortunately, I was out of luck and that particular location does not currently have them in stock, but the reasoning makes sense.

The McDonald's sheet cakes, which come in both chocolate and white, are typically reserved for birthday parties hosted at the fast-food chain. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, birthday parties have been put on hold. Luckily, customers can still purchase cakes from McDonald's as long as they place an order ahead of time. The manager recommended that anyone seeking to buy a cake for $12.99 plus tax should stop by a week in advance to let them know and she can make sure that cakes arrive with the next shipment.

Please note that we called all of the McDonald's on the SouthCoast and this is the only location that has confirmed they will order the birthday cakes for purchase. We called the McDonald's located at 1080 Kings Highway in New Bedford and while they do not currently have them, they might carry them once again in the future.
