DARTMOUTH (WBSM) — Hawthorn Medical Associates in Dartmouth is warning patients of “impersonation callers” claiming to be from the healthcare provider and stating that it will no longer accept Medicare.

Hawthorn posted to its Facebook page on Wednesday morning that the calls are not from them and the information is not true. It also posted the information on its website as well.

“Recently, we have received reports that individuals posing as representatives from Hawthorn Medical and informing patients that Hawthorn will longer accept Medicare,” Hawthorn wrote. “This is not true.”

Hawthorn reminded patients not to provide sensitive information over the phone.

“If you are unsure who the caller is, hang up,” Hawthorn wrote.

The calls come at a time when Medicare and Medicaid are hot political topics as President Donald Trump seeks Congressional approval for his “One Big Beautiful” tax bill. Both programs would see deep cuts if Republicans get their way, including as much as $500 billion cut from Medicare, according to the Washington Post.
