Currently Massachusetts state allows drivers 18 years and older to drive and use a cell phone so long as the driver is not texting or emailing.  However, this soon may not be the case.

In a recent push by supporters of the law, Massachusetts has become a candidate for the Hands-Free Law. It is believe by many that making cell phones illegal on the road is the safest and best option for all involved.

Supporters of the law believe that Massachusetts drivers should be required to either not use their phones at all while driving or that they should acquire hands-free equipment to receive and make phone calls, such as Bluetooth.

New Hampshire, Connecticut, Vermont and New York are all among the states of the Northeast who have instated the Hands-Free Law and many believe Massachusetts should follow suit with in the 2015-2016 year.

Supporters claim that by instating this law, people will be forced to put down their phones and not have the excuse of using their cell phones to distract them from the road. It also allows police to better distinguish whether or not a driver is illegally texting or not.

However, others have argued that hands-free systems such as Bluetooth still require too much of the attention of the driver and that it is still as dangerous a distraction as texting.

Let us know how you feel about this law possibly being put in place and whether you agree with it or not.
