After months of a stalemate and backlash, construction has begun once again on the controversial equipment shed at Fairhaven High School.  As odd as it sounds, the shed construction has become a heated topic, particularly for neighbors of the school who have made it known that they find the structure to be an "eyesore."

Fairhaven Controversy Surrounds Student-Designed Shed

Bickering about the equipment shed got so heated that at one point earlier this year, the young man who designed the structure, a Greater New Bedford Voc Tech student at the time, shared that the public criticism has taken a personal toll.  .

"I understand that I'll never create something that everyone will like, but I'm not going to lie, it hurt to read that headline on the Standard-Times website," said Aydin Afonso.. FHS Equipment Shed Construction Has Officially Resumed

But after months and months of sitting dormant, construction has begun once again on the infamous shed.  Fairhaven Superintendent of Schools, Tara Kohler, says the students at Greater New Bedford Voc Tech have finally been allowed to resume the work on the project.

Kohler says the school district is appealing the building commissioner's determination.  She says she recently had a productive meeting with Fairhaven's town attorney and town administrator.  All parties agreed that the shed needed to be built.  Kohler says the group believes they have a path forward.

When will the project be completed?

Kohler says it's anybody's guess.  "I wish I knew.  Maybe late fall?  We're really not sure."
