Conan Gray was kicked out of his house when he was a senior in high school and is now touring the country to sold-out venues and dropping some great music.

Conan, like too many young people, comes from a turbulent upbringing. He calls himself a professional over-thinker, which is what led him to write songs. Growing up in a small-town retirement community in Georgetown, Texas, Conan had lots of time on his hands and got really creative with creating.

Conan Gray says his musical influences are Adele, Lorde, and The Dixie Chicks. Now I'm not sure his influences had anything to do with how his music sounds but you can definitely tell he wants to relate to so many through his songs like his influences have.

Conan is bringing the "Generation Why" to the forefront with his music and asking all the tough questions. He also wants to be a role model, saying, " I want people to know that kids from small towns can do great things."

He has a few songs out right now but "Checkmate" is super catchy and it's the one I played on the radio. Take a first listen:

Conan is on to something, forming a fan base like crazy and gaining millions of followers on Spotify. He reminds me of AJR. He's currently working with some of the same producers that have created hits for Kylie Minogue and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Now that you've heard a taste of Conan, what do you think? Does this guy have a hit song that we should add to the Fun 107 playlist?  Wicked good or totally whack?
