
Columbus Day: What’s Open & Closed On The Southcoast
Today, Monday October 9th is Columbus Day, a national holiday which celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in America on October 12, 1492.
President Roosevelt named this an official federal holiday back in 1937. Most people have the day off, but there are some people who are working today.
Here's a rundown of what is open and closed on the Southcoast today:
City Trash: Pickup will be on a 1 day delay. (Private pickup may vary)
Municipal, State & Federal Offices: Closed
Libraries: Closed
Schools: Closed
Post Offices: Closed, No Mail Delivery
Registry Of Motor Vehicles: Closed
Retail Stores: Most will be open, some may be closed at owner’s discretion
Supermarkets: Open
Pharmacies: Open
Convenience Stores: Most will be open, some may closed at owner’s discretion
Restaurants: Most will be open, some may be closed at owner's discretion
Banks: Most will be CLOSED, some may open - check with your local branch
Bars: Open
Liquor Stores: Open
Stock Market: Open
SRTA: Buses will operate on a Saturday/Holiday Schedule
MBTA: Subways and buses will operate on a Saturday schedule. Commuter trains and ferries will operate on a weekday schedule.
RIPTA: Buses will operate on a Holiday Schedule
AAA: Branches Closed
