City Woman Arrested After Leaving Crash Scene
A New Bedford woman is under arrest following a bizarre scene Monday night outside the Downtown police station in New Bedford.
Police say two cars were racing on Pleasant Street around 10 pm. Officers signaled both vehicles to stop. They did stop, but one of the cars then sped forward, hitting the car it was chasing and then drove off.
Officers later located the suspect vehicle at Thomas and Hillman Streets.
The operator, 30-year-old Caroline Peraza-Rivera of New Bedford was arrested and charged with numerous motor vehicle violations, including operating with a suspended license, leaving the scene and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Police say both operators did know each other.
