SANDWICH (WBSM) — A three-year-old child was killed Sunday afternoon after being struck by a motor vehicle.

According to Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois and Sandwich Police Chief Jason Keene, police received a 911 call just before 3:30 p.m. on December 7 reporting a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle in the area of Service Road in East Sandwich between Quaker Meeting House Road and Chase Road.

First responders arrived to find an injured three-year-old child. The child was transported to a nearby hospital and later died as a result of their injuries.

The authorities said that the driver remained on the scene and was cooperating with the investigation.

“Due to the ongoing investigation and the sensitive nature of the incident, no further information will be released at this time,” Galibois and Keene said in a release. “The thoughts of our agencies are with the child’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable time.”
