EAST BRIDGEWATER - Authorities say a five-year-old girl was left disfigured after an alleged Voodoo ritual carried out by two East Bridgewater women.

According to The Brockton Enterprise, Peggy LaBossiere, 51, and her sister, Rachel Hilaire, 40, were ordered held without bail Monday after pleading not guilty on charges of mayhem (the permanent disfigurement of a child’s face), assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a child with injury, indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14 and threatening to commit a crime (murder).

Police say the two women were arrested on January 26 after they tied up, burned, and disfigured the girl in order to rid her of a demon they believed was making her misbehave.

The girl and her older brother had been staying with LaBossiere, who is a client of the girl's mother, a hair stylist.

Police say the women also threatened to cut off the girl's brother's head if she continued to misbehave.

A dangerousness hearing for the women this week was continued until next Wednesday.
