In its fifth year of distribution, Cape Traffic IPA is a tasteful nod to an experience that Massachusetts locals and vacationers know all too well, developed by the team at Stellwagen Beer Company in Marshfield.

Stellwagen Beer Company Is a Vibe

Michael Snowdale was born and raised on the South Shore. He and his brother, Dave, opened Stellwagen Beer Company back in 2018 and created a little haven in Marshfield with Stellwagen Beer Company.

Giving a nod to the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, Stellwagen Beer Co.’s open taproom, stunning beer garden, and coastal vibes attract beer enthusiasts from the South Shore and beyond.

People come for the artisanal batches and stay for the local musicians, food trucks, vendors, and unique events.

Snowdale and his team love to give their brews a name that pays homage to the area.

“The idea for us being small and local is to try and come up with beer names that are relevant to where we’re at,” said Snowdale.

Options like Beach Pale and Whale Watchers give a nod to the area, but there’s no question that Cape Traffic IPA is as local as it gets.

Cape Traffic IPA Is Way More Enjoying Than the Bridges

First launched in 2019, Snowdale was looking to do a summer seasonal beer. With tropical notes and hints of citrus, he had an easy-drinking IPA on his hands. When it came to naming it, he relied on personal experience.

“I’ve been a lifelong South Shore resident and driving along Route 3 during the summer, you do so at your own risk,” he said. “I was probably sitting in Cape traffic when I came up with the name. It’s nostalgic, it hits home, and everyone around here deals with it, so we rolled with it.”

With the Sagamore Bridge in the background and a play on the Massachusetts traffic sign displaying “5 mi: 108 minutes”, the Cape Traffic IPA can is just as clever as the name.
