Buzzards Bay Swim Breaks All-Time Fundraising Record
On June 22, I dove into Onset Bay with one goal: to swim 1.2 miles across open water and raise funds for clean water in our community. What I didn’t realize at the time was that I’d be part of something historic.
Hundreds of swimmers, myself included, took on the Buzzards Bay Swim, not just for the challenge, but for the mission. Together, we made waves, literally and financially.
For the first time in Buzzards Bay Swim history, the fundraising goal was shattered, raising over $250,000.

A Personal Record With a Personal Mission
For me, this swim wasn’t just about distance; it was about digging deep.
I clocked in at 54:50, marking a new personal best across 1.3 miles of open water. Every stroke I took was powered by motivation that ran far deeper than the tide.
I swam with my family on my mind: my incredible wife and our baby boy. They were my strength, my why and my heart. Having my parents there cheering me on from the shore was everything. The moment I crossed the finish line and hugged my mom, I felt the emotion hit. Hard.
I couldn’t have made it to that finish line without the steady hand of my kayak support, Tyler Dean, who navigated me through the course with calm and confidence.
More Than a Swim
This event wasn’t just a fundraiser. It was a celebration of community and purpose. The beach was alive with energy from Fun 107 and El Caribe bringing the vibes, to vendors, spectators, volunteers and sponsors who showed up to make it unforgettable.
After the finish line? The medal was sweet, but the Buzzards Bay Brewing beer I’ve been waiting two years to earn? It might’ve been the best sip of my life.
The Ripple Effect
Buzzards Bay Coalition President Mark Rasmussen put it best.
“These hardy swimmers raised more than ever before," he said. "Their efforts will directly support our work protecting and saving the Bay, from restoring natural places, to accelerating cleanup, to supporting our cities and towns as they tackle wastewater issues.”
This kind of impact doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when passionate people come together, believe in a cause, and take action. Stroke by stroke, dollar by dollar.
To Every Swimmer
If you swam in this year’s Buzzards Bay Swim: be proud. You helped make history. You showed what heart and hustle can accomplish.
If you’ve ever thought about taking the plunge, trust me – the water’s worth it.
