Bridgewater State University has named its Institute for Social Justice after the youngest victim of the Boston Marathon bombing.

University President Dana Mohler-Faria said at a ceremony Wednesday the institute exemplifies what Martin Richard stood for, peace.

Martin was 8 years old when he was killed in the April 15, 2013, bombing at the marathon finish line. His younger sister lost her leg and his parents were also injured.

An earlier photo of Martin holding a sign saying, ``No more hurting people. Peace'' became an icon after the explosions.

Martin's parents, Bill and Denise Richard, met at Bridgewater State and graduated in 1993.

Bill Richard said at the ceremony Wednesday they hope Martin's memorial stands not for past tragedy, but for inspiration, and a reminder that ``the story of the future is not yet written.''  (Associated Press)
