Bridgewater Police: Man Sexually Assaults, Tries to Kidnap Jogger [VIDEO]
BRIDGEWATER - Police are charging a Bridgewater man after he allegedly sexually assaulted and tried to kidnap a female jogger.
Bridgewater Police received multiple reports at approximately 7:35 a.m. on Sunday that a female jogger had been assaulted by a man in the area of 433 Pleasant Street.
The suspect supposedly fled in an orange Hyundai Santa Fe.
During the investigation, police determined that the 37-year-old female victim was jogging down Pleasant Street when the suspect pulled his vehicle over and stopped in front o fher. The suspect allegedly ran toward the woman, grabbed both of her arms, and tried to pull her toward his vehicle.
Police say during the ordeal, the suspect sexually assaulted the woman.
The victim was able to scream and fight with the suspect, causing both of them to fall to the ground. The suspect then ran back to his vehicle and fled the area.
The incident was reported by a passing motorist and the victim, as well as a resident in a nearby home who witnessed the attack and assisted the victim. The victim was able to take a picture of the suspect's fleeing vehicle. She also denied medical attention at the scene.
Using the photo provided by the victim, police obtained a description of the suspect's vehicle, and identify the suspect as Gordon Lyons, 57, of 273 Main Street, Bridgewater.
A short time later, Lyons was involved in a motor vehicle crash on the northbound side of Route 24 in West Bridgewater. Lyons was injured in the crash and was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he is under the custody of the Bridgewater Police Department. He is being held without bail pending arraignment.
Lyons faces charges of kidnapping, indecent assault and battery on a person age 14 or older, and assault and battery.
