BOURNE (WBSM) — A car fire in Bourne temporarily shut down the Bourne Bridge over the Cape Cod Canal earlier this morning.

The fire happened around 10 a.m., and according to fire officials, it caused a traffic backup on both sides of the bridge.

Massachusetts State Police and the Bourne Fire Department assisted in putting out the flames along with Bourne Police.

According to the fire department, the bridge has been reopened for traveling.

No further information has been released about the cause of the fire or reports of anyone inside the car when the fire started.
