Boston Pops Welcoming ‘Wicked’ Good Guest
For more than a century, the Boston Pops have been entertaining audiences not only in Boston, but far beyond.
Part of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Pops were created in 1885 "in the hope of re-creating the ambiance of summer evenings in Viennese concert gardens while also providing summer employment for the members of the Boston Symphony, who at that point, had to search for other work six months out of the year."
The name "Pops" caught on as a shorter way to describe the "promenade concerts" or "popular concerts." The Boston Pops have been led by some incredible conductors over the years including John Williams, quite possibly the most talented composer of all time.

Williams is the man behind the music of E.T., Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the first three Harry Potter films and many, many more. Williams conducted the Boston Pops from 1980-1993, but he's not the only famous face that has a connection to the iconic group.
Famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma has graced the Pops stage a few times. James Taylor, Bette Midler, Tony Bennett, Steven Tyler and even magicians Siegfried & Roy have had the pleasure of performing with the Boston Pops as well.
This May, Conductor Keith Lockhart guides the way as the Pops kick off their spring season. They will welcome Wicked star Cynthia Erivo on Thursday May 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Symphony Hall in Boston. The actress, singer, producer and songwriter will showcase her vocal abilities on stage with the Boston Pops on Opening Night.
Tickets go on sale February 4 at 10 a.m. with a five-ticket-per-person limit.
