Celebrate Juneteenth this year by supporting and buying Black at a pop-up outdoor market in New Bedford.

BuyBlackNB, an online platform that highlights Black-owned businesses across the SouthCoast, is hosting the outdoor market, Black in Business, on June 19, providing a safe space for business owners to get their products in front of customers and featuring everything from art and food to clothing and more.

“We’re hosting a space that welcomes and celebrates local, talented creatives,” BuyBlackNB founder Justina Perry said in a press release. “Part of the mission is to circulate money in the community. We do this by advocating for Black businesses to be supported and sustained so they can thrive.”

The market will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rotch-Jones-Duff House, and in accordance with local health guidelines, all participants and customers will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing throughout the event.

You can keep up-to-date with the growing number of Black-owned businesses on the SouthCoast and find more details about upcoming BuyBlackNB events through the organization's website, Instagram or Facebook page.

Juneteenth, also known as Black Independence Day, is a day of recognition and empowerment that commemorates June 19, 1865, when news finally reached Galveston, Texas of the end of slavery in the United States.
