ATTLEBORO (WBSM) — A rollover crash in Attleboro this morning shut down South Main Street for a short period of time and sent the driver to the hospital.

According to Attleboro Fire Chief Scott L. Chance, the department responded at about 8:10 a.m. to a report of a motor vehicle crash in the area of 866 South Main Street.

Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle resting on its roof after striking a utility pole. The driver was able to remove themself from the vehicle with the help of bystanders before first responders arrived.

The driver was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

LaChance said the “crash caused significant damage” to the utility pole, breaking it into three sections. He said National Grid crews were on scene working to replace the damaged pole. He said a portion of South Main Street remains closed with a detour in place.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Attleboro Police.
