Never before has the topic of health and healthcare been more important to more people. To help get health information out to our audience, we decided to team up with AccentCare Home Health in Fall River, Westwood and Methuen.

We invited one of the nurses from AccentCare's Fall River location, Rochelle Allen, to join Michael and Maddie in-studio yesterday morning. One of the topics that Allen is very concerned about, obviously, is COVID-19. Specifically, Allen said it is disturbing to see how many people are delaying important surgeries because they are afraid of catching the virus.

"Elective surgeries have been postponed," said Allen. "Elective is a word that really means it is necessary, but put off. So (these surgeries) are deferred, they are not unnecessary."

Allen said that the trend is troubling.

"These are things that need to happen," she said. "So, as an organization, we can give comprehensive care, nursing, physical therapy, emotional support, we can help with geri-depression and anxiety, which is such a problem right now. And we can do all of this in the home."

"This is really where we shine," said Allen.

She said that they are able to come into the house and provide the health care that is necessary both before and after surgery. The home healthcare allows patients of all ages the recover from surgery from the comfort of their homes without worrying about being exposed to the risks a hospital setting can bring.
