Since 2015, Fun 107 and the United Way of Greater New Bedford have partnered to help local families through Holiday Wish Week.

The annual program helps families and individuals going through hard times. From health issues to domestic violence, loss of job to loss of life, the stories run the gamut.

Despite the hardships, there is hope. The kindness of our community truly shines as thousands have called in, texted in and donated funds to assist our neighbors in need.

This year is no different. Five local families, all experiencing some tremendous obstacles, are in need of our help.

A Medical Crisis That Changed Everything

In September 2025, Shyanne Gray from Acushnet was admitted to Tobey Hospital in Wareham after developing an infection in her big toe.

Gray assumed the treatment would be quick and easy. However, her life was drastically altered when her infection led to IV antibiotics, fever, and nausea. It eventually left her so weak she couldn't walk, stand or even feed herself.

She went through multiple surgeries, more infections, allergic reactions and more, being told she was at risk of losing her entire foot.

Caring for Siblings After Losing Their Parents

If dealing with her health challenges wasn't enough, Gray has the added responsibility of juggling her appointments and medical emergencies, all while caring for her younger adult siblings, both of whom live with developmental disabilities.

The Grays lost their parents during COVID, passing just 15 months apart.

Rising Bills and Mounting Medical Expenses

Though Shyanne is doing everything she can to get better, the bills are piling up.

From the many trips to Mass General in Boston to the expensive oxygen treatments and a broken wheelchair, Shyanne could certainly benefit from the generosity of others.

She's battling to save her leg, keep her family going, and make the most of the holiday season. It's an uphill battle, but Shyanne is trying to stay positive and is grateful for her support system.

Flip Through the Vintage 1980s Sears Holiday Wish Book

Check out this Sears catalog that I got my hands on. It is the 1980 Sears Holiday Wish Book. It is nearly 500 pages of everything you wanted to circle in the book so Santa knew what you wanted for Christmas. I picked out a bunch of electronics, retro toys, hand-held games, roller skates, big wheels, clothes, and even a 1980s version of the electronic spin bike. Enjoy!
