Police say 28-year-old Jeffrey Munroe of 3548 North Main St. was arrested near Sunny’s Convenience Store at 526 North Main St. shortly after the attempted robbery of the store was reported.

According to the clerk at the store, a heavy-set man, about 5 feet 6 inches tall entered the store wearing a clown mask then approached the counter and demanded money while pointing a hypodermic needle.

The robber did not get away with any items or money however. Police say he failed to get behind the counter of the store, then tried pulling the cash register towards him but was unable to get that open either.

The suspect was also described as having a large tattoo on his neck and Monroe was identified as the suspect by the police after they viewed surveillance footage in the area.

He was picked up and charged with armed assault to rob.
