Chipotle will officially be the first restaurant to only use food with no GMO ingredients.

According to Huffington Post, starting today Chipotle will be the first major chain restaurant serving only food that is free of genetically modified ingredients.

This is another step toward the visions we have of changing the way people think about and eat fast food.

The company's co-CEO, Steve Ells was quoted saying, “This is another step toward the visions we have of changing the way people think about and eat fast food. Just because food is served fast doesn’t mean it has to be made with cheap raw ingredients, highly processed with preservatives and fillers and stabilizers and artificial colors and flavors.”

Chipotle has been working on a GMO-free menu for years and it was't until 2013, that they disclosed all GMO-containing food on their menu.

The brand says they have successfully taken out all GMO ingredients including switching their soybean oil to other types, like sunflower oil. The only issue they will have with GMO foods is that their pork and chicken will come from animals who are fed GMO ingredients.  Hopefully they will find a way around that as well, sooner rather than later.

I personally think this is a great idea!  GMO foods have been known to be dangerous for our bodies, so having a major chain restaurant focus on eliminating them is amazing! I am always trying to find ways to eat healthier GMO-free foods and since I love Chipotle, it's nice to know I won't have to give that up.  Hopefully one day we will see this trend within all restaurants and food supply companies, of getting rid of GMO's!
