Police in Bourne are searching for a man who escaped custody Friday night.

The Bourne Police Department says 24 year-old Branden Coggeshall of Bourne was taken into custody around 5:30 p.m. last night for several misdemeanor arrest warrants.

The arresting officer was then driving Coggeshall back to headquarters and stopped to check his gun before taking Coggeshall out of the cruiser.

Apparently Coggeshall had managed to get out of his handcuffs during the drive and pass through a very small opening in the barrier separating the prisoner compartment from the front of the cruiser. He then got out of the vehicle.

The officer saw Coggeshall getting out of the car and chased him, but Coggeshall jumped a fence and fled out of sight.

Bourne police searched for the fled suspect and several other departments assisted in their search, but could not find him.

Anyone with information on Coggeshall’s whereabouts is asked to call the Bourne Police Department at 508-759-4451.
