WOONSOCKET, R.I. — The Woonsocket Fire Department has announced honors for the funeral of Deputy Fire chief Roger Perreault Jr. following his active-duty death on Christmas Eve.

Perreault, a resident of Blackstone, MA, passed away in Woonsocket on Dec. 24 at the age of 59, according to his obituary.

Woonsocket fire officials stated he served more than 36 years at the department and in multiple other fire and emergency services groups.

His obituary notes that Perreault was a member of the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Association and the IAFF Local #732, and served as the treasurer and secretary for the Woonsocket Firefighters Relief Association.

The deputy chief was also an instructor for the Rhode Island Division of Emergency Medical Services as well as a registered nurse and a proficient woodworker, according to the obituary.

He leaves behind multiple family members including his wife, son, and granddaughter, his mother, and two sisters and their families.

The Woonsocket Fire Department notified members that uniformed personnel are asked to attend Perreault's wake on Friday and funeral on Saturday.

Honor guards are "welcomed and encouraged to participate" in the funeral service, according to the announcement.
