Woman Dead Following Early-Morning Apartment Fire in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD – A woman and a dog are dead following an early morning fire in New Bedford on Saturday.

Multiple media outlets report that the fire broke out just before 3:00 a.m. inside of an apartment on the bottom floor of a multi-family home at 25 Sycamore Street. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the apartment and found the woman's body upon entry.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. No other injuries were reported.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
