There's something going on with Facebook this week. All of a sudden, out of the blue, I am getting dozens and dozens of invites to "like" someone's Facebook page.

At first, I thought it was a side effect of having a pool of Facebook friends approaching the magic 5,000 number. I was thinking that people who are trying to promote their business's Facebook page might seek out users that have a lot of followers because they know that they have a broad reach.

Upon further informal research, I don't believe this is the case. I asked a small group of people in the office, and they have ALL seen a tremendous increase in page invites on their Facebook account.

Facebook may have changed its algorithm again, which may have shifted things a bit and caused this dramatic increase in page invites. Whatever the cause, it is very annoying. All this week, when I glance at my Facebook icon on my phone, I see a big "9+" staring me in the face. On the surface, it looks like there's a lot of action happening for some reason on my account. I click in, trying to remember what my last post was and what all of the buzz could be about, and it's nothing but a bunch of invites to Facebook pages I have no interest in.

I started searching Facebook settings to figure out if there was some way to turn off the ability for my followers to send me these annoying invites. Unfortunately, the answer seems to be no, at least for the time being.

What you CAN do is remove the ability for individual users from sending you the page invites. It's something that would have to be done one by one. What a tedious task! Too bad it wasn't as simple as flipping a switch in settings.

Looks like I'm going to have to ride out this page invite storm.
