When you visit Cherry and Webb Beach this summer, you may notice a new addition to the landscape.

Cold Weather Can't Stop Beach Preparations

Despite the raw, cold spring weather and an approaching Nor’easter, Memorial Day Weekend is just days away. That means beach season is nearly here, and one local beach is getting ready to welcome swimmers with a key safety upgrade.

Diman Students Build Lifeguard Stand for Westport Beach

Cherry and Webb Beach, known for offering a low-key Westport beach day, now features a brand-new lifeguard stand. The project was led by Steve Camara and a group of students from Diman Regional Vocational Technical School.

According to Westport Recreation, the lifeguard stand was first transported from Diman’s shop to the Cherry and Webb Beach parking lot by a truck from Long Moving and Storage.

Lifeguard Stand Delivered with Community Effort

From there, the Westport Highway Department took over, hauling the structure across the parking lot, through sand dunes, and down to the shoreline, making sure it was safely placed in time for the holiday weekend.

Vocational Schools Give Back Through Real-Life Projects

Schools like Diman RVTHS and Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech frequently take on hands-on community projects. They often focus on public-benefit efforts like this one, where students gain real-world experience while helping improve the community.

Enjoy the View from the New Lifeguard Stand

During off hours, you might even want to climb up the new stand for a bird’s-eye view of the beautifully preserved natural habitat at Cherry and Webb Beach.
