Two Pit Bulls Rescued from Sweltering Garage of South End Home
NEW BEDFORD — Another case of animal abuse in New Bedford as two more dogs were left exposed to the extreme heat Sunday by their owner.
New Bedford Police say 32-year-old Ryan Alexandre was arrested at his apartment at approximately 11:00 p.m. Sunday night on animal cruelty charges after authorities found two pit bulls suffering from severe heat exposure in the garage of his 288 Bonney Street home. Animal Control officers arrived to the home with police units to find one of the dogs, a pit bull believed to be 15-to-16-years-old, heavily panting while sprawled out in its own feces and urine.
The discovery of the pit bulls came after Animal Control had rescued two other dogs and a parakeet from dangerous conditions while locked inside a parked car at the Zeiterion Parking Garage.
Alexandre has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty and two counts of a dog tethering violation.
